Our Church School

“I have done my best in the race, I have run the distance.”

–2 Timothy 4:7

At WJS, we have strong links with our local church All Saints’ in Westbury. Built in the second half of the 14th century, it is a fine Grade 1 listed building. It stands in an enclosed churchyard surrounded by cottages.

As a school, we visit for acts of worship, for school trips to enhance our RE lessons and have regular visitors from the White Horse Ministry to lead our whole school worship. In addition to this, two members of the White Horse Ministry lead our weekly Prayer Council group, with pupils and staff at the school.

A welcome from our local Team Rector and Foundation Governor, Revd Rebecca:

Hello. My name is Revd Rebecca Harris and I’m the new Team Rector of the White Horse Team Ministry based in Westbury and surrounding villages. It’s great to be here. I’ve been in post since February 2020 and I’ve just become Foundation Governor at Westbury CE Juniors. I’m looking forward to getting to know the school community better, as soon as it is possible. I shall be coming into the school to lead Collective Worship, to visit you all and be part of the developing the Christian distinctiveness of the school.

I would also like to be able to welcome you to our beautiful and ancient church at All Saints’ in the centre of Westbury, which is one of the oldest buildings in the town.  We would love to be able to host some of your school worship, and also welcome individual classes for visits to find out more about the building, and what we do in the church. I also hope to be able to visit you in the classroom and share in some of your learning in RE and related subjects. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

With every blessing,

Revd Rebecca

Our school badge

Respect, Care and Inspire. It is at the heart of the school uniform.

This journey of Respect, Care and Inspire that the whole school community are on is is founded

in our school biblical quote.

A visual representation of our bible verse

The bible verse that sets our vision statement in context comes from Timothy:

“I have done my best in the race, I have run the distance.”  –2 Timothy 4:7

We have been working with a parent (who is also a local artist), to create a visual representation of this verse for us. Her initial sketches were drawn through talking to our pupils about what makes the school special. The idea was introduced in an assembly and a series of sketches were then created. Our Prayer Council then discussed the important elements from these initial sketches and a definitive ‘must have’ list was created.  These were then shared with Mrs Breed who created a ‘final’ sketch to share with the pupils.

The important job of painting then started with small groups of pupils. We will update the page with photos as this beautiful creation takes shape.

This was then officially unveiled by The Right Reverend Dr Andrew Rumsey Bishop of Ramsbury
