Prayer Council and Worship Warriors

Guided by our Christian vision, “Let your light shine” (Matthew 5:16), our Prayer Council and Worship Warrior Leaders play an important role in developing and enriching the worship and spiritual life of our school. Through their leadership, pupils are encouraged to grow in confidence, develop their own spirituality and use their gifts and talents to serve others.

Our Prayer Council is open to pupils across Years 3 to 6 and provides children with meaningful opportunities to develop their confidence, leadership skills and understanding of Christian worship. As pupils progress through the school, Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to graduate to become Worship Warrior Leaders, taking on increased responsibility for leading and shaping worship across the wider school community.

The Prayer Council meets weekly to reflect, plan and prepare for upcoming acts of worship and key events. During these meetings, pupils contribute ideas and help select appropriate music, prayers, parables and Bible readings. They play an active role in ensuring that worship is meaningful, invitational and relevant to our whole school community. Our Prayer Council members are highly committed and regularly give their own time to support the worship and spiritual life of the school.

Our Worship Warrior Leaders build upon this experience by taking a leading role in the preparation and delivery of worship. They support the planning and leadership of weekly class worship, helping to select Bible stories, readings and prayers. They also model thoughtful participation and help to create a respectful and reflective atmosphere in which everyone feels welcome.

Our committed Year 6 Worship Warrior Leaders regularly take responsibility for leading and shaping whole-school worship in a variety of meaningful and age-appropriate ways. They may plan and lead worship assemblies, select Bible readings and key messages, lead prayers and liturgy, and support reflective activities. They also play important roles during whole-school Communion services, including welcoming visitors and helping to prepare the worship space.

Worship Warriors contribute to the wider life of our school by writing and leading prayers for governors' meetings, special events and lunchtime grace. They care for and develop prayer areas within classrooms and shared spaces, ensuring these provide meaningful opportunities for reflection and connect with the church year and current worship themes. They also create resources, such as prayer cards and reflective questions, and gather pupil voice to help shape and develop worship across the school.

An important aspect of their role is supporting and inspiring younger pupils. Worship Warriors model how to participate confidently and respectfully in worship, encouraging others to contribute and helping pupils understand that everyone has something valuable to offer.

Through these opportunities, our pupil leaders actively demonstrate our school values of Respect, Care and Inspire. They show Respect by listening to others, valuing different perspectives and helping to create an inclusive worship environment. They demonstrate Care by supporting their peers, serving the school community and creating spaces where others can reflect and feel a sense of belonging. Through their leadership, enthusiasm and commitment, they Inspire others to participate, develop their spirituality and recognise their own potential.

Our worship is invitational and inclusive, reflecting the diverse needs and experiences of our school community. We enjoy a rich variety of worship experiences, including teacher-led worship, Open the Book, indoor and outdoor worship, services held at All Saints Church, singing worship, class worship and celebration worship.

Through the Prayer Council and Worship Warrior Leaders, pupils are given the opportunity to develop their voice, take responsibility and use their unique gifts in the service of others. In doing so, they bring our Christian vision to life, encouraging every member of our school community to recognise their strengths, share their light and “Let their light shine.”
